Sonia Vanhorn, occupational therapist with IU 10, presented on the symptoms of sensory processing for students on the spectrum. She reviewed a checklist of symptoms to assist parents and pre-school staff with identifying students with need extra or limited stimulation, and reviewed how to adjust teaching strategies to accommodate these students.
She also reviewed zones of regulation to assist with sensory processing. She discussed various student processing speeds, and had participants discuss what sensory items bother them and what sensory items they find soothing. She then applied that knowledge to everyday activities that assist with learning or inhibit learning.
