Dr. Melissa Hunter conducted the first training, “Strategies for Teaching Social Skills in the Home and Community.” She presented on the application of social stories and video modeling to assist with more effective community involvement. She emphasized that kids on the spectrum learn best when it is applied with other children. She demonstrated on-line video modeling to demonstrate to children on the spectrum appropriate everyday actions that we take for granted.
The second spring parent training presentation is on March 1st. Occupational therapist Sonia Van Horn will present an overview of sensory strategies that promote self-regulation and efficient sensory processing. Signs and symptoms of sensory processing difficulty will be reviewed.
Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and try strategies during the training.
