ABOUT US

Soaring Heights School combines both educational and behavioral strategies outside of the public school setting to provide an intensive intervention program that enhances the child's learning.
Students identified with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) generally demonstrate a combination of deficiencies in three primary areas: behavior, communication, and socialization.
To address the child's needs, Soaring Heights School has established a structured and caring environment that enhances th student's strengths while addressing his or her weaknesses. A child and adolescent psychiatrist and psychologist provide intensive support through medication and positive behavior management techniques.
Soaring Heights School works collaboratively with academic community resources to offer an educational program that addresses the needs of individuals with ASD who are currently unsuccessful in the public school environment. These resources may provide additional services such as special education supervision, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy.
Soaring Heights School currently has four locations in Pennsylvania: Clearfield, DuBois, State College, and York.

ABOUT OUR SERVICES

Soaring Heights School serves individuals in grades K through 12 from the school districts surrounding each of our four locations.
All Soaring Heights School educators are Certified Special Education Teachers and all classroom aides are required to become certified by the Pennsylvania Department of Education as a paraeducator. Additionally, all staff are trained in TEACCH methodology* and techniques of ABA.
We assign an Individualized Education Program (IEP) to every student at Soaring Heights School, in order to most effectively meet their needs. The IEP addresses each student's needs through goals and objectives.
All classrooms utilize direct instruction through individual and small group settings. Lessons focus on increasing academic performance, socialization, and communication skills in addition to teaching appropriate behaviors. Instruction takes place in both classrooms and community-based settings to ensure transfer and generalization of skills across all environments.
Ultimately, we hope to re-integrate our students into their home public school districts. With the necessary supports, we believe that each student has the ability to demonstrate the skills they've learned at Soaring Heights School and be successful in a less structured environment.
Our teachers incorporate a visual and highly structured environment with a data driven behavioral approach through Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA). Picture Exchange Communication Technique (PECT) is utilized daily. Technology shapes the classroom environment and enhances the educational experience; students use iPads, computers, smart boards, GPS devices, and Kindle Fires.
The home school district's Individual Education Plan Team reserves the authority to decide appropriate placement for the student. When a Soaring Heights School campus is determined to be the correct placement for the student, the tuition is payed by the student's home school district.
Cooperation between the agencies that provide Therapeutic Support Staff to the school and families is vital to the success of the program, as we aim for students to generalize their newly learned skills and apply them at home and in the community as well.
